Learning Difficulties & Specific Learning Disorders
At DSC, our view of learning difficulties is never limited to an academic symptom such as weak reading, writing, or mathematics. We build a developmental, cognitive, linguistic, academic, executive, psychological, behavioral, sensory, neurological, medical, and educational profile in line with the DSM-5-TR, ICD-11, the strongest evidence, and standardized tests. This helps distinguish dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia from ADHD, autism, language, intellectual, hearing, vision, sleep, mental health, and educational or environmental factors that can resemble or accompany them.
We identify exactly where the learning chain breaks down and why: phonological awareness, decoding, fluency and comprehension, spelling and written expression, number sense, calculation and reasoning, language, working memory, processing speed, attention, or executive function.
Achievement, reading, language, cognitive, and executive tests are used only when they answer a genuine diagnostic question.
From this profile, we select the strongest evidence-based interventions: structured literacy, explicit and systematic phonics, phonological awareness, fluency and comprehension, writing and spelling, mathematics interventions, IEP/MTSS/RTI, and executive, psychological, behavioral, and language support. Any confirmed medical or nutritional factors are addressed by the appropriate professionals. We do not treat the school grade; we treat the mechanism that produced it, and every continuation decision is governed by measurable progress data.
